The only thing you need to take out of this post is “DO NOT DO IT”. I traveled from Nairobi to Mombasa by road in December 2017 and I would n0t recommend anyone to. Book your flight ticket ahead, save up the little difference, Go my train, Cycle, Walk, Crawl if you can. DO NOT TRAVEL BY ROAD.
I had seen this on Instagram but did not heed to it. I am putting this out there hoping someone who isn’t stubborn like I am finds it useful. It was Christmas period and would have preferred to go by Train but tickets were sold out and being on a budget, my only other option was by road.
At this point, I was done with road travel, $23 for the worst road experience ever. I cant remember if it was the road , the bus, the driver or just me, I slept throughout the 12hour journey and at every point I woke up, i felt I was going to be thrown into the windshield from where I was seated. I think it must have been the seat! DO NOT DO IT!
Few hours later, after heading to the beach, It was worth it, I forgot all about my experience getting there. I just relished the bit of time I had.
If you decide to, there are quite a few bus companies that run the Nairobi to Mombasa route by bus. They are located at the city center mostly on Accra street. Safe Travels
